June 2020: City Walk Urban Mission Announces Opening of Third Men’s Home Campus in the Big Bend

June 17, 2020

City Walk Urban Mission today announced the opening of their third transitional and supportive housing facility, in the greater Tallahassee area. The new men’s home will take in men experiencing homelessness, addiction recovery, and returning to society from incarceration.

Since 2012, City Walk has helped thousands of people each year in many forms of crisis. CWUM operates a food pantry, a clothes closet, Christian counseling, mental health counseling,  case management, employment services and job training, and now three transitional and supportive housing facilities. “This new men’s home offer came to us at a time when we were at capacity with a waiting list on both current homes. The Covid-19 crisis has had a large impact on the population we serve and we greatly needed the additional beds.” said Pastor Renee Miller, Executive Director.

Chairman of the Board, John Ellison says “While expansion is always part of our overall strategic plan, we didn’t expect a third facility this soon. However, the offer and terms were so attractive we felt as though God was telling us it was time now. I believe we exist to grow and serve as many people as we can. When opportunities present themselves I believe it is God’s will that we move on them.”

Most of the funding comes from our donation dependent thrift store, individuals and business donors. “So much time, energy and funds are given to help other people in other places when right under our noses are the homeless and destitute in the Big Bend area who are just as much in need of help. There’s no better way to help our community then to devote resources instead to those in need in our own community. I have known Tony and Renee for almost a decade and their vision has lead to the improvement of the lives of many persons who would otherwise have literally nowhere to turn. It’s an honor to be able to support their  mission and I would encourage others to do so as well.” Tom Thompson, Thompson, Crawford & Smiley.

We invite you to invest in changed lives and a safer community by donating online at www.citywalkthrift.com or at our thrift store and outreach center at 1105 N. Monroe Street, Tallahassee FL 32303.
